If Jimmy Garoppolo Were a Car, What Kind Would He Be?

The great Matt Maiocco got me thinking about quarterbacks and cars.

On Twitter, Maiocco compared 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to "a sports car with no spare tire" when explaining why the 49ers might want to invest in a better backup quarterback.

I love Maiocco's analogy, so I'd like to use it, too. Thanks for the idea, Matty. 

I agree with his general point -- Garoppolo is an expensive quarterback who breaks down, so the backup is important.

49ers throwback: When San Francisco hit home runs with draft day trades

The San Francisco 49ers hold the No. 12 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. John Lynch has made trades involving the team’s first-round pick in two of the four drafts he has overseen as general manager.

The Niners traded both up and down the draft board in the first round last year. San Francisco traded back one spot and selected defensive Javon Kinlaw 14th and then traded up from No. 31 to take receiver Brandon Aiyuk 25th.

In 2017, Lynch’s first draft at the helm, the 49ers traded down one spot and took defensive lineman Solomon Thomas No. 3. Lynch then traded up late in the first round to take linebacker Reuben Forster.
