Josh Gordon's next step on his football journey is out of the NFL.
The Seattle Seahawks released Gordon on Thursday, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported. With his release, Gordon is now eligible to join Fan Controlled Football, where he will reunite with former Browns teammate Johnny Manziel.
It was a move put into motion by Gordon, according to a tweet in which he wrote: "I personally asked Seahawks for release. The contract was expiring but still legally binding."
The suspended Seattle Seahawks wide receiver has joined the Fan Controlled Football league’s Zappers franchise, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The FCF was founded in 2017 but didn’t launch until 2021. It’s an indoor league that is streamed on Twitch and fans can call the plays, control the team through drafting players, and there is celebrity team ownership.

Marshawn Lynch and Richard Sherman have ownership stakes on separate teams, and Zappers is part-owned by New York Mets pitcher Trevor May, Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook, gamer celebrity Ronnie 2K, and comedian/sportscaster/social media personality Bob Menery.
Jenny Durkan, who has been Seattle's mayor since 2017, wrote back to Cantrell, "I love you, Mayor, but keep your eyes off (Russell Wilson). His home is Seattle."

Durkan also quipped about how Seattle wants an NBA team again, after losing the SuperSonics in 2008 after the team was relocated to Oklahoma City — telling Cantrell, "don't make me go there."
